Eric Townell, Conductor Eric
Townell brings a national reputation as a choral, orchestral and
operatic conductor to the Master Singers. Educated at Peabody Conservatory
and Indiana University, Eric has studied with Helmuth Rilling, Georg
Tintner, Charles Bruck and Frederik Prausnitz. Now in his sixth season
with the Master Singers, Eric has led the choir in an adventurous
series of subscription concerts, collaborations, outreach concerts
and special events. In 2006, Eric became the third Music Director
in the 60-year history of the Rochester Oratorio Society in New York.
The former Music Director of the Festival Choir of Madison and the
Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra, Eric has been a frequent guest
conductor with Wisconsin’s leading instrumental and vocal ensembles
and with orchestras, choirs and opera companies in the US and Europe
for the past twenty years. His choral and orchestral conducting have
been featured in four live broadcasts over Wisconsin Public Radio,
in taped performances for Wisconsin Public Television and in nationwide
broadcasts over NPR. Together with the Master Singers, Eric is committed
